В переносном смысле «переодетая вошь» — это человек, который благодаря приобретенному богатству перешел в другую социальную категорию и хочет казаться настоящим синьором, но часто выдает себя невоспитанностью, а то и просто вульгарностью. О таком говорят также: «зажиревшая вошь».
